:Description :Vitamin E 50% acetate (USP): minimum 500 IU/g of activity in a mineral excipient.
Properties :Vitamin E (dl-alpha tocopheryl acetate) is necessary for cell metabolism. Its main function is to act as an antioxidant by reducing in vivo the auto-oxidation of unsaturated fatty acids and vitamin A (the activity of vitamin E stored in fat deposits continues in an animal's carcass after it has been slaughtered, delaying or preventing the oxidation of fats).
Other functions:
It helps control the metabolism of carbohydrates and creatine in muscle metabolism, as well as the glycogen balance; it regulates gonadal development and function; it prepares and protects in gestation, regulates hormone metabolism through the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland, stimulates antibody formation and exercises antitoxic activity in cell metabolism; it plays an important role in the functioning of the immune system.
Requirements :Of all the factors that determine vitamin E requirements, the most important is the dietary concentration of polyunsaturated fatty acids. Also, the quantities of vitamin E required to maintain adequate levels of growth and production may be insufficient to ensure optimum immune system function. Stress and infections also increase the requirements of this vitamin.
